Stitch ‘n Time Club

winters eve stitch n time projectsStitch ‘n Time is a volunteer based textiles club where members enjoy learning about the cultivation of wool and cotton, and colonial textiles.

Volunteers meet on the second Saturday of every month from 1-4 pm, in addition to completing at-home volunteer projects between meetings. Each meeting is themed, and will focus on a particular task or step in the processing of wool from the foundation’s Hog Island sheep flock.

Hog Island sheep are a critically endangered breed of sheep with 16771124827_566a209ea1_mless than 200 sheep registered in the US each year. Products produced by the Stitch ‘n Time club are sold to support the foundation’s Heritage breed preservation program.

Volunteers are expected to regularly attend monthly meetings and contribute to fiber processing to the best of their abilities.

2016 meeting themes are as follows:
February 13: “Heart-felt:” Needle felting
March 12: Mending and Tending: Colonial clothing fixes for the Boltons
April 9: Spring Cleaning: Wool and equipment inventory
May 7 (1st Saturday): Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival field trip
June 11: Wool washing
July 9: Picking and Carding
August 13: Spinning Yarns: Wheels and drop spindlesDSC_0531
September 10: Dye Day
October 8: Knit Happens
November 12: Crochet Soiree
December 3 (1st Saturday): Sheepapalooza Holiday Party

Qualifications
No previous experience is needed. We accept both experienced and novice fiber artists interested in: sewing, knitting, crochet, spinning, dyeing, weaving, and felting. The club has some equipment and notions available for check out (ex. wheels, spindles, crochet hooks, knitting needles, hand carders, wool combs, etc.), but encourages volunteers with their own to bring them along or use them at home.
